Finger in Japanese: 指ゆび (ゆび), 親指おやゆび to 小指こゆび, 指輪ゆびわ, and 指ゆび切きりげんまん

"Finger" in Japanese is 指ゆび (ゆび). The five fingers are 親指おやゆび (おやゆび, thumb), 人差ひとさしし指ゆび (ひとさしゆび, index), 中指なかゆび (なかゆび, middle), 薬指くすりゆび (くすりゆび, ring), and 小指こゆび (こゆび, pinky). A ring is 指輪ゆびわ (ゆびわ), and a pinky promise is 指ゆび切きりげんまん.

Finger names in Japanese are little stories. The thumb is the "parent finger", the index is the "people-pointing finger", and the ring finger is the "medicine finger". Once you know the stories, the names stick.
