Sanrio Cafe Harajuku: How Booking and Walk-ins Work, and the Sanrio Shop Below It

SANRIO CAFE Harajuku is on the 3rd floor of Takeshita-dori Square, 1-16-4 Jingūmae, directly above the Sanrio Harajuku shop on the 1st and 2nd floors. It has 32 seats you can book online and 34 walk-in seats. Bookings are for two people or more, last 90 minutes and carry a per-person seat charge that comes with a café-only gift. Walk-ins are seated in order, with numbered tickets when it is full. I run private anime tours in Akihabara most weeks, and this is the character café I suggest for Hello Kitty fans.

Both opened in December 2025, and Sanrio calls the shop "the most Sanrio shop in the world".

How do you book Sanrio Cafe Harajuku?

Online only, through the reservation site linked from the official café page; phone and in-store bookings are not taken. From the official rules: bookings from two people; 90 minutes from your booked time; a per-person seat charge with a Harajuku-only novelty; cancelled if you are 15 or more minutes late; cancel by two days before, or the charge and any pre-ordered items are billed.

Rule (official) Detail
Seats 32 bookable, 34 walk-in
Booking Web only; two people or more
Stay 90 minutes from the booked time
Charge Per-person seat charge, with a Harajuku-only novelty for bookings
Late Cancelled after 15 minutes
Cancelling By two days before; later cancellations are charged
Ordering At least one item per person

Can you walk in to Sanrio Cafe Harajuku?

Yes, into the 34 walk-in seats, in order of arrival. When it is full, the café hands out numbered tickets and calls you when a seat frees up; you cannot choose your time, and it may stop giving out tickets when it is very busy.

This is the honest section. The café hands out numbered tickets when full and may stop handing them out, so a walk-in is never guaranteed. If you are a group of two or more and your dates are fixed, book. If you are on your own, walk-in is your only option, because bookings start at two people. The afternoon tea set is booking-only, limited to 30 a day, and must be reserved at least two days ahead.

What is on the menu?

Character pancakes made from rice flour, pasta named after Pompompurin, Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll and Gudetama, burgers, character parfaits, latte art and teas, plus a seasonal afternoon tea set. From 1 to 31 October 2026 the afternoon tea is an autumn, Halloween-themed version.

Menu (official, October 2026) Examples
Special Afternoon tea set, 30 a day, booking only (autumn version 1–31 Oct)
Pancakes Rice-flour character pancakes with sides
Pasta Pompompurin Bolognese, Hello Kitty shrimp and tomato, Cinnamoroll seafood cream, Gudetama omelette carbonara
Parfaits Hello Kitty strawberry, Pompompurin pudding, Cinnamoroll soda, Kuromi coffee
Drinks Cold drinks, coffee and lattes, six teas

The café also sells its own goods. Sanrio has a second café in Ikebukuro, linked from the official page.

What is in the Sanrio Harajuku shop?

Two floors of Sanrio goods with Harajuku-only items: mascot holders in Harajuku fashion, T-shirts and socks with the Harajuku logo, a "fill-your-own" jar of character figures, and a patch-decoration counter where you design your own key ring or pouch. Each floor has its own till.

The patch counter limits each customer to two base items per purchase, and the shop does not hold, ship or answer phone questions about stock. If you shop tax-free, from 1 November 2026 you pay the tax at the till and get it back after a customs check at the airport. Tokyo Station's Tokyo Character Street has another Sanrio shop if Harajuku does not fit your route.
