The "Godzilla Hotel" is Hotel Gracery Shinjuku, on floors 8 to 30 of the Shinjuku Toho Building in Kabukicho. The Godzilla Head is a life-size head about 12 metres tall on the building's 8th-floor terrace. The hotel sells Godzilla-themed rooms, including a Godzilla Room and a Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah Room on the 30th floor, and Godzilla View rooms whose windows face the head. You do not have to stay here to see it: the head is visible from the street, and the 8th-floor lounge looks at it through big windows. One catch for 2026: the building's official page says the Godzilla terrace is currently closed. I run private anime tours in Akihabara most weeks, and Shinjuku is where my monster-movie guests ask to go next.

What is the Godzilla Hotel in Tokyo?

It is Hotel Gracery Shinjuku, a regular city hotel that happens to wear Godzilla. The hotel occupies floors 8 to 30 of the Shinjuku Toho Building, which was built between July 2012 and March 2015, and the head sits on the building's 8th-floor outdoor terrace.

Toho, the studio that made Godzilla, describes the head as about 12 metres tall and a symbol of Kabukicho. Toho's Tokyo sightseeing map adds that it stands about 50 metres above the ground, the height of the Godzilla in the first 1954 film.

Can I see the Godzilla Head without staying at the hotel?

Yes, you can see it for free from the street. Toho says the head roars and lights up once an hour, every day from 12:00 to 20:00, to music from the films. For a closer look without a room, the hotel's GRACERY LOUNGE on the 8th floor, next to the lobby, has large windows facing the head and is open to people who are not hotel guests.

Toho's own sightseeing page suggests waiting for the top of the hour so you catch the roar. I would do the same and arrive a few minutes before the hour.

About the terrace. The 8th-floor terrace is where you used to get right up beside the head. The official Shinjuku Toho Building page now says: the Godzilla terrace is closed at present. I could not find a reopening date on an official page, so treat the terrace as closed unless the hotel tells you otherwise before you go.

Which Godzilla rooms does Hotel Gracery Shinjuku have?

The hotel's official Godzilla page lists four room types. The Godzilla Room and the Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah Room are one room each, both on the 30th floor. The Godzilla Floor is the top floor with 35 rooms, and there are six Godzilla View rooms with windows facing the head.

Room What it is
Godzilla Room One room, 30th floor, comfort twin (32 m²). Open the door and a life-size Godzilla suit stands inside, with a giant Godzilla hand covering the room; a mini monitor plays video available only in this room
Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah Room One room, 30th floor, comfort twin (32 m²), styled as a special-effects film studio with a Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah battle set in Shinjuku
Godzilla Floor 35 rooms on the top floor (twin, double and triple); past Godzilla figures in the elevator hall and a monochrome photo gallery in the corridor. Only guests who book this floor's plan stay here
Godzilla View Room Six double rooms (18 m²) with windows facing the Godzilla Head on the terrace; each has a different tapestry, the view differs by room, and you cannot choose the room number

The hotel says the two themed rooms cannot be booked by phone, and that photo ID is checked at check-in. Rates change by date, so check the booking page rather than a blog, including this one.

If you only want to see the head from a window, the View room is the version that is not a one-off room. The lobby floor also has a poster gallery and a Godzilla goods corner.

Is the Godzilla Store in the same building?

No. Godzilla Store Tokyo is not in the Hotel Gracery building. It is on the 1st floor of Shinjuku Marui Annex, 3-1-26 Shinjuku, a separate building a short walk from the Godzilla Head. Toho opened it on 30 October 2017 as the world's first official Godzilla shop.

This is the mix-up I see most. People search for the "Godzilla Hotel shop" and walk the hotel lobby looking for the store. The hotel has a small goods corner; the full shop is down the road. My guide to Godzilla Store Tokyo covers it and Toho's other stores in Odaiba and Shibuya.

Both on the map, so you can plan one loop. Tap one for directions.

How do I fit this into a Tokyo trip?

Shinjuku works as a quick stop: the head, the Godzilla Store and the lounge fit into a short visit. Akihabara is the other half of a monster-movie trip, because Toho lists several Akihabara shops among its Godzilla stockists.

For the wider list, my anime places to visit in Tokyo puts Shinjuku next to the districts I send anime fans to. If you stay at the hotel for the Godzilla rooms, treat the room as the main event and the head as the bonus, since the terrace is closed.
