Part of: Akihabara Figures: Where to Buy New vs Used
Volks Akihabara: Hobby Tengoku 2, the Radio Kaikan Doll Floor, and This Month's Pop-Ups
Volks, the Kyoto hobby maker behind Dollfie Dream and the Five Star Stories model kits, has two shops in Akihabara. Hobby Tengoku 2, at 4-2-10 Sotokanda, is seven floors of goods, figures, model kits and pop-up event spaces. Doll Point Akihabara and Hobby Square Akihabara share the 8th floor of Radio Kaikan. Both are on Volks's list of tax-free stores. I run private anime tours here most weeks, and Hobby Tengoku 2's pop-up floors are a good reason to check what is on before you go.
Volks is the rare shop in Akihabara that makes much of what it sells. Its original kits and dolls are found almost nowhere else.
Where are the Volks stores in Akihabara?
Two locations. Hobby Tengoku 2 has its own seven-floor building at 4-2-10 Sotokanda. Volks Doll Point Akihabara and Hobby Square Akihabara are on the 8th floor of Radio Kaikan, 1-15-16 Sotokanda, across from the Electric Town Exit. Volks's own page says to visit both when you come to Akihabara.
| Store | Where | What it is (official) |
|---|---|---|
| Hobby Tengoku 2 | 4-2-10 Sotokanda, 1F–7F | Latest goods and figures on 1F; Volks's own kits on 4F; event spaces on 6F and 7F |
| Doll Point Akihabara | Radio Kaikan 8F | Dollfie Dream; Radio Kaikan's listing calls it the world's largest DD floor |
| Hobby Square Akihabara | Radio Kaikan 8F | Scale hobby |
Radio Kaikan's other nine floors are in the Radio Kaikan guide. If you would like the hobby floors chosen for you, my Akihabara anime tour plans the route around what you collect.
What is in Volks Hobby Tengoku 2?
Seven floors, opened in July 2021. Volks describes 1F as where the newest goods and figures arrive, and 4F as the floor for its own original products: Five Star Stories IMS kits, Blockers and Character Gumin. The 6th and 7th floors are event spaces that host anime pop-up shops in rotation.
The building also hosts Volks's model contests and exhibitions, such as its Blockers events. For model-kit builders, the Volks originals on 4F are the reason to come; you will not find most of them in a general hobby shop.
Which pop-up shops are on at Volks Akihabara in October 2026?
Volks's page lists four: a Laid-Back Camp (Yuru Camp) event on 7F until 25 October, a Blend S pop-up on 6F until 18 October, a Pichi Pichi Pitch pop-up on 1F from 10 to 25 October, and a There's No Freaking Way I'll Be Your Lover! Unless… pop-up on 6F from 23 October to 8 November.
| Pop-up (official listing) | Floor | Dates (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Laid-Back Camp event, "Tomo-Camp +1 2026" | 7F | 2 Oct – 25 Oct |
| Blend S POP UP SHOP | 6F | 3 Oct – 18 Oct |
| Pichi Pichi Pitch POP UP SHOP | 1F | 10 Oct – 25 Oct |
| There's No Freaking Way I'll Be Your Lover! Unless… POP UP SHOP | 6F | 23 Oct – 8 Nov |
This is the honest section. Pop-ups change every few weeks, and many offer goods only at the venue, often with a purchase bonus. If your series is on, it is worth a special trip; if not, the floors below are still a good hobby shop. Volks warns that entry can be limited when it is crowded.
Can tourists shop tax-free at Volks Akihabara?
Yes. Volks's notice lists Hobby Tengoku 2 and Doll Point / Hobby Square Akihabara among its tax-free stores, open to short-stay visitors, not only overseas members. From 1 November 2026 you pay the tax at the till and get it back after a customs check at the airport.
The notice dates from December 2022, so confirm at the counter. Tax-free shopping in Japan after November 2026 explains the new process.
