Mandarake Shibuya: What Is on Its One Big Floor, How to Get There, and How It Compares with Akihabara and Nakano

Mandarake Shibuya is a single large basement floor, B2 of the Shibuya BEAM building at 31-2 Udagawachō, five minutes from JR Shibuya's Hachikō exit. Its sections cover boys' and girls' manga, BL, men's and women's doujinshi, toys, dolls, discs, cards, male-idol goods and vintage comics, plus one of Mandarake's named specialist corners. It buys as well as sells. I run private anime tours in Akihabara most weeks, and this is the Mandarake I suggest when guests are already in Shibuya.

Mandarake is Japan's best-known secondhand anime and manga chain, and its three Tokyo hubs feel different: Nakano is dozens of small shops, Akihabara is two tall buildings, and Shibuya is one sprawling underground floor.

What is in Mandarake Shibuya?

Mandarake's floor guide for Shibuya lists these sections: BL and shōjo comics, men's doujinshi, shōnen comics, women's doujinshi, toys, discs, vintage comics, a "Kaiba" corner, male-idol goods, dolls and cards. It is all on one floor, which makes it quick to browse compared with the multi-storey shops.

Section (official floor guide) What it means
Shōnen comics; BL and shōjo comics Secondhand manga
Vintage comics Older and rare manga, magazines and books
Men's doujinshi; women's doujinshi Secondhand self-published works
Toys Including vintage and Western toys, going by the shop's recent posts
Dolls; male-idol goods; cards; discs Specialist corners

Shop posts from summer 2026 give the flavour: Toy Story items, vintage Kenner Star Wars figures on their cards, and a Gunbuster storyboard collection with image boards at the vintage counter. If you are in Akihabara, my Akihabara anime tour covers the Akihabara Mandarake buildings in context.

How do you get to Mandarake Shibuya?

Walk five minutes from JR Shibuya's Hachikō exit to the Shibuya BEAM building, 31-2 Udagawachō, and go down to B2. Shibuya BEAM has a paid car park underneath, but Mandarake notes a height limit and suggests nearby coin parking for vans.

Shibuya PARCO, with Nintendo TOKYO and Pokémon Center Shibuya on its 6th floor, is in the same Udagawachō area, so the two make a good Shibuya afternoon. For the Pokémon side, Pokémon Center Tokyo lists every branch.

Is Mandarake Shibuya better than Akihabara or Nakano?

Smaller, and easier. Shibuya puts a broad range on one floor; Akihabara's Mandarake Complex spreads eight floors with whole floors for toys and doujinshi, plus Complex 2; Nakano Broadway has more than thirty separate Mandarake shops, covered in the Nakano Broadway guide. For depth, Nakano and Akihabara; for a quick look while in Shibuya, here.

This is the honest section. Rare items are priced at collector value in every Mandarake, and the shop you are standing in has only its own stock. If you want something specific, Mandarake's online store is the place to check before you choose which branch to visit. Where to buy anime figures in Akihabara explains secondhand condition tags and pricing.

Can you sell to Mandarake Shibuya?

Yes. The store page lists a buying counter, with buying ending half an hour before closing. Japanese secondhand shops generally ask for photo ID when you sell.

If you are buying, ask about tax-free at the counter; from 1 November 2026 you pay the tax at the till and get it back after a customs check at the airport. Tax-free shopping in Japan after November 2026 has the details.
